It’s inevitable that you’ll fall off of the proverbial wagon at some point in your goal setting journey. This just means that you need to get back on that horse again and keeping moving forward. Even though this is often easier said than done, it is entirely possible. How? Here are the main ways to do this:
Don’t Criticize Yourself
It’s too easy to fall into a pattern of self-criticism when you fall off the path on your journey toward meeting your goal. Sure, you’re mad at yourself for what you view as your failings. You’re angry that you missed that small goal. However, this is not the time to call yourself names or get very angry. These are negative behaviors that will ensure that you never get back up and on your way again. You don’t want to fall into this trap, so don’t criticize yourself. Instead, tell yourself positive things. Think about what you have accomplished so far. This will give you the confidence that you need to keep going.
Don’t Hang Out With Negative People
There are two main types of people in your life – those who are overtly negative and those who are positive. The latter will support you, no matter what, while the former will make it too hard to keep going. Have you ever heard of “psychic vampires?” These aren’t people who have psychic powers. They aren’t the bloodsucking types of vampires either. What they are is people who will suck all of the positivity out of your life. They’ll drain your energy and leave you dry. If you hang out with enough of them, then you won’t accomplish your goals, because they’ll fill you full of negativity. You need to avoid the people in your life who are extremely negative, especially when you’re trying to change your life in a positive way.
Focus On Your Why
Let’s go back to something that we discussed a few posts ago – what was yours why? Why do you want to meet this goal? How will your life change for the better once you do? What can you do to get back up and finish your journey? You need to spend some time ruminating on your why because it will help you back on track. Don’t lose sight of your end goal or why you want to meet it.
Find Some Inspiration
Finally, you need to locate some sources of inspiration. What will help you meet your end goal? What can you do in order to get back on that horse? Even if it’s something small, like locating an inspirational story or something with a great message, if it will help, read it and use it to keep going.
Never give up.
