Who is in your corner? Do you prefer to go things alone? Even if you’re the loneliest type of loner, you probably have a few people that will support you no matter what. And if you are a loner, then now is the time to reach out and find people who will help you meet your goals. You need to have someone to share the celebrations with – even if those people aren’t your direct support team. Yes, the people here may or may not be your mentors, but they will definitely be there for you no matter what. They’ll help you celebrate those victories and support you when you’re feeling down.
These are the three types of people that you need in your proverbial corner.
Encouragers
Encouragers are also known as cheerleaders. They are people who will stand on the sidelines and cheer you on. Let’s use the race analogy again – they are the ones waiting for you at the finish line, telling you that you can do it.
How do you know who your encouragers are? They’re the ones who will listen to what you have to say, take in all of your plans and goals, and then tell you that they believe in you. They know that you can meet your goal. They’ll be beside you (probably not literally) every step of the process and will listen to your issues throughout, meeting them with positive affirmations.
Now, sit down and think about it – who are your encouragers? Consider writing their names down in your progress journal.
Helpers
Helpers are like coaches. They have plenty of knowledge about the process and are able to help you out here and there. If you need advice, then they’ll offer it. If you need someone to just tell you to keep going, then they can do that too. They are there for you, no matter what.
Think about the coaches that you’ve seen at sporting events. What do they do? Well, they tell the players which play to do. They come up with strategies. And they help their players with small issues before telling them that “they can do it.” Good coaches are hard to find – the same is true for helpers.
Who are the ones in your corner? Again, write about them in your journal.
Accomplices
These aren’t accomplices like the kind you see in heist movies. Instead, these accomplices are designed to be there for you, because they are on the same journey. How can you find accomplices? Well, they’re everywhere. How can you not find them?
Your accomplices can be found in numerous places, depending on what your goal is. If you want to take up running in order to lose weight, then locate a runner’s group in your area. If you want to do some crafting activities, like learning how to knit, then go to a yarn shop. They most likely have a group that meets on occasion. If your goal is to read more, then find a few friends who want to do the same thing.
Your accomplices are there to stand beside you as you meet your goals because they want to meet theirs as well.
Now that you understand the three types of people that you need in your corner, it’s time to define them. Name them. Write their names down. Make lists. Do whatever you need to do to make it clear that you’re not on this journey alone. Because you aren’t. You have people next to you who care about you.
